Funny People

We are living in the machine age. For the first time in history the comedian has been compelled to supply himself with jokes and comedy material to compete with the machine. Whether he knows it or not, The comedian is on a treadmill to oblivion.

I don’t get high, but sometimes I wish I did. That way, when I messed up in life I would have an excuse. But right now there’s no rehab for stupidity.-Chris Rock

I assume you’re noticing that all those activities I’m mentioning: Murder, torture, genocide. These are all thing human beings do. Not animals, those creatures we feel superior to.

“‘I’m bored’ is a useless thing to say. I mean, you live in a great, big, vast world that you’ve seen none percent of. Even the inside of your own mind is endless, it goes on forever, inwardly, do you understand? The fact that you’re alive is amazing, so you don’t get to say ‘I’m bored’.”

THE CHAMPION - 1915  ESSANAY FILM

This is another boxing film, he had a short cameo in the Keystone film Knock Out and of course in City Lights.
Charlie is getting ready to get in the ring to box, he is being encouraged to throw the fight.
His Essanay films which were between his Keystones (1914) and Mutual (1916) film period are not viewed as much as his Mutual short films and his later feature films. His Essanay are a mixture between his Keystones and Mutuals.  To me it is interesting to see the evolution of the tramp. Someone once told me the tramp of 1931 would not want to hang out with the tramp of 1914
